Step-by-Step Fix
Verify Internet Works

Run QuickBooks as Administrator
Right click QuickBooks icon → Run as Administrator → Try update immediately → Administrator mode bypasses some security restrictions causing 12029
Check Firewall Settings
Windows Defender Firewall → Advanced Settings → Outbound Rules → Look for any rules blocking QuickBooks → Delete blocking rules → Add new Allow rules for: QBW32.exe, QBUpdate.exe, QBDBMgr.exe

Open Internet Explorer → Tools → Internet Options → Advanced tab → Scroll to Security section → Make sure these are checked: Use SSL 2.0, Use SSL 3.0, Use TLS 1.0, Use TLS 1.1, Use TLS 1.2 → OK → Restart
